Star of the Month
Able to capture men’s hearts with the removal of a single black glove, Rita Hayworth was the definition of Hollywood bombshell – so much so that her likeness graced the side of an actual atomic bomb during a nuclear test. Hayworth appeared in more than sixty films over thirty-seven and was featured on the cover of Life Magazine a total of five times during her career. The daughter of a showbiz family, Hayworth (born Margarita Carmen Cansino) found her legs in entertainment as a dancer and is one of six actresses to have danced on screen with both Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. After all the love interests and femme fatales, Hayworth’s final role was as the first public face for Alzheimer’s, fighting the disease with the same passion she brought to the screen.
