Fantastic Journey

The Fantastic Journey

About Fantastic Journey

(1977, NBC)

A team of scientists charter a boat to explore the area near the Bermuda Triangle. When their ship is sucked through a rift in the space-time continuum, they end up trapped on a mysterious island where past, present, and future converge.

Roddy McDowall stars in this homage to Saturday morning serials as Dr. Jonathan Willaway, a “rebel scientist from the 1960s.” The castaways include teen genius Scott Jordan (Ike Eisemann from the Witch Mountain movies) and hot-headed young doctor Fred Walters (Carl Franklin, who would go on to direct films like One False Move and Devil In a Blue Dress). On the island they meet Varian (Jared Martin), a peace-loving traveler from the 23rd Century and Liana (Katie Saylor), a half-Atlantean, half-extra-terrestrial empath. Liana’s companion is Sil-El, a black cat she communicates with telepathically. All work together with one goal: finding their way home.

Bruce Lansbury (brother of Angela) created the series, which capitalized on the Bermuda Triangle craze. TV legend Leonard Katzman (Dallas) produced, with acclaimed science fiction screenwriter D.C. Fontana (Star Trek) serving as story editor.

The late 1970s was a great time to be a fan of sci-fi movies and TV shows, and The Fantastic Journey is one of the lost treasures of that glorious era. Don’t miss this never-on-DVD gem!
