About The Unit
“You aren’t in the Army. You’re in the Unit,” Molly Blane (Regina Taylor) tells the wife of a new recruit in the first episode of The Unit, an engaging combination of action procedural and nighttime soap.
Dennis Haysbert stars as Command Sergeant Major Jonas Blane, Molly’s fifty-something husband and the senior member of an elite counterterrorism force based near St. Louis. His fellow team members include newbie Sergeant First Class Bob Brown (Scott Foley), hotheaded Master Sergeant Mack Gerhardt (Max Martini), and Sergeants First Class Charles Grey (Michael Irby) and Hector Williams (Demore Barnes). All serve under Colonel Tom Ryan (Robert Patrick), a commanding officer who secretly keeps company with one of his soldier’s spouses.
While the specialists complete missions in exotic locales, their wives — Molly (Taylor), Tiffy Gerhardt (Abby Brammell) and Kim Brown (Audrey Marie Anderson) — deal with the stresses of classified missions and constant danger, while trying to keep things together on the home front.
The Unit was created by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and screenwriter David Mamet, based on the book Inside Delta Force by Eric L. Haney (who is also a producer). It has look of a feature film with the soul of a soap opera, and we mean that in the best possible way.
