In the first episode of this heartwarming medical drama, hunky Montana doctor Clint Cassidy (Billy Ray Cyrus) follows his ambitious girlfriend to New York City. Things don’t work out, but he decides to stay anyway. For five seasons, Clint brings his small town sensibilities – and epic mullet – to the big city.
Most of the action in Doc takes place at the fictional Westbury Clinic, where Clint dispenses medicine and homespun advice. Friendly Dr. Hebert (Derek McGrath) and self-important Dr. Crane (Ron Lea) are Clint’s fellow physicians, Donna Dewitt (Ruth Marshall) is the hospital’s prickly administrator, Tippy (Paula Boudreau) is the quirky receptionist, and Dr. Kate Weston (Nancy Sakovich) and Nurse Nancy Nichol (Andrea Robinson) are his love interests. Richard Leacock and Tracy Shreve play NYPD cop Nate Jackson and his wife Beverly, and future heartthrob Tyler Posey is the orphan son they adopt. At age 8, Miley Cyrus makes her acting debut in the pilot and appears in two additional episodes.
With five seasons of births, deaths, workplace intrigue, romantic relationships, and emotional drama, Doc has a bit of a nighttime soap vibe. Each show concludes with Clint writing a letter to his mentor Dr. Harley Johanson (Neil Dainard), whom he affectionately calls “Doc.”
